New Poetry from Ephraim Matembo

AS THE TIME GOES

As the time goes,
We forsake our beautiful innocent parents
That planted foundation stone of achievements in us
And bow down for Delilahs of today.

As the time goes,
Leaders assume we don't feel pain
Because we never shade a tear
Yet our shouting for help...
Bought plots on front pages of our newspapers

As the time goes,
Eagle's eye witness our true brothers hardening hearts
unscrewing body parts of innocent souls
Yet failing to harden hearts
to hook out greedy and corrupt politicians with their golden vote

As the time goes,
We type, print & photocopy into our minds
That education is not a key to success
But a permission to rape any law
Without being arrested.

say "hie" to Ephram and talk with him about his poems. It is so important to talk, help each other, and we all need a bit of encouragement to keep going,
and know what we are doing,
is worthwhile

Corruption

Defeater of the justice
Creator of greedy third planet
Unquestioned authorities seen celebrating

Epicenter of enormous suffering
Pulling the nation anticlockwise
To drag citizens out of the reality
With fear, they watch

Killer of peace and love
That affects sprouted thrilling flags
And fatten greedy readers
Surely exposed by scandals

Ephraim, the writer

AS THE SUN SETS

Together we sing anew song
To praise the creator
To shame the devil
To courage the oppressed

A smile covers our cheeks
To mask our real image
To comfort clients of the day
To bring memories in our minds

Darkness friendly invited
To bring complicated hand over
To carry creatures closer to blankets
To summarise everything

Ephraim Matembo

OUR FLAG

A three equal horizontal stripes flag
Flying with authority at angles of point
Special identity over the world Shines with wonderful colours day and night

Epicenter of Nyasaland history
Sun,a new dawn of freedom
Black, predominantly black Malawias
Red, blood of heroes struggled for Independence Green, indeed our evergreen homeland

Spitting unity and freedom showers
Of bringing peace and love among citizens
That never covered like air O flag of peace!

Ephraim Matembo

OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM

Floating perfumed song
Shouted day and night in our hearts
And flooded out in daily ceremonies
With our right hands on ribs tight

Nineteen sixties born prayer
Bursting out daily life tortures
Hunger, disease and envy on target
For God to safeguard us

Triple unique stanza song
Proudly exposing country's beauty
Land, lakes, mountains and valley,
Names leaking on its tongue

Calling for unity in all times
To hold pillars of the nation
With one purpose and one goal
Just to build mother Malawi!

Ephraim Matembo

L O V E

Lifeblood uniting the hearts,
in all seasons captured the earth

Oxygenated noun among people,
that breath with authority
Voice of the fact in minds,
that the tippex fails to eliminate

Eye of peace to existing creatures,
that takes it to the edges of the world.

Ephraim Matembo

PASSWORD

A string of characters with watchful eyes
Protecting privacy at angle of the point In all active times of the system

Inch mistake of its design Extends to a mile mistake automatically With wrinkles of zero forgiveness

Obstacle to spies
Obstacle to enemies
Yes, obstacle to computer system hackers.

I DO

I do cry for you brothers and sisters
For you have existed in wrong time
Full of false teachings from all corners

I do listen carefully to our readers
Not to be deceived
by double tongued readers
For they are many in streets

I do fight every minute
With a positive mind in exile
To win the success battle

LAKE MALAWI

Third largest water holder in Africa
Fresh water eyes rotates slowly
With history of lake Nyasa lying on its back
To attract the attracted

Care of decorated aquatic animals
With its deeper water in north
And shallower in the south
Just to reveal of its unique

Steamers sails on its back
For visitors to witness of its beauty
Indeed our lake Malawi
That brings world of fishing to Malawians
